GUIDE TO SETTING UP UI-VIEW32 FOR USE ONLY ON THE INTERNET
(IMPORTANT NOTE: The first time you open a setup menu, you will be met
with
a help screen. Close it and open the same menu again. If you need the
help later, open the setup menu and hit your "F1" key.)
To use UI-View32, you will need to have registered it, and received
your "Server Validation Number" (all one process).
Please refer to the screen shots for help on setup.
Click "File" and "Download APRS Server List". Change the URL in the box
to france.aprs2.net/APRServe2.txt.
Click "Download". After
it does it's thing, click OK and close the text window.

Now open "Setup", "APRS Server Setup".

Check only the red "x" boxes.
For the APRS Server Validation Number, go to "Setup" and "APRS Server
Setup" and enter the number in the "Validation Number" box. Check "APRS
server logon required" and "Enable auto reconnect". Click OK.
(NOTE: The APRS Server Validation Number is a shorter number, not the
long one.)
In the "Select One or More Servers"
select two to three serves. (This will switch between servers
automaticly if one goes down.)
Click OK.
(NOTE: The "Afiilter:3033" is a
special server which requires more configuration than is noted here.)
What you receive will be a "filtered" feed, so we need to put something
in the "Extra log-on text" box.
NOTES ON
FILTERS:
First, what do you want to see? If
you want to see all stations all over the world, do this one: filter -b/CW*.
If you want to see a 300 kilometer circle around you, do this one: filter -b/CW* m/150.
10 km = 6.2 MI, 100 KM = 62.13 MI,
300 KM = 186.41 MI.
You put the figure of half the total radius around you that you want to
receive.
Your map selections still determine exactly what is shown on screen.
This one "sees" stations in a 300 mile kilometer, and lets you see all
weather related objects: filter -b/CW*
m/150
t/n.
(The "-b/CW*" excludes
"Citizen Weather Stations" which are non-ham
stations seen only on the internet. You DO want to make sure that
is in there, because there are thousands of the "CW" stations, and they
will fill your screen!)
If you hit "F1" while in the "APRS Server Setup", and look for the
"FILTER.TXT" link, it will take you to a guide that explains in depth
how to setup filters.
Now go to "Setup" and "Station Setup".

Do only the things in RED text.
Enter you call with a "-10" at the end of it. (NO spaces.) That tells
others you are an internet connected station.
Enter your latitude and longitude. (The "Locator" will come up
automaticly after you enter lat and lon.)
Enter your comment...something like "Bubba's APRS Internet Station".
Set the Beacon interval for Internet to "30".
Select a Symbol. Most use either the "Home" or "Laptop" symbols for an
internet connected station.
Go to "Setup" and "Status Text". Enter anything you want in the box.
Mine says "...Jus' sitin' 'round!". You can put "walkin' the dog" , "In
the bathroom" whatever.
By now you are saying are we ever going to get finished. Go to "Action"
and "Connect to APRS Server". Click "Yes" to "log on when connected".
You should begin to see stations appear.
IF by some chance you cannot get connected, or nothing happens, go over
this list again, and if everything is right, it may be a firewall
issue. Be sure to tell ALL your firewalls and routers to allow
UI-VIEW32 to have access to the internet. Due to the many variations of
systems and hardware, you are on your own to fix this problem. There is
no way we can answer questions about these issues, as every firewall
and router is different.. Please check your hardware /
software documentation for how to fix these problems. Also, do a
"Google" search for "ui-view32 firewall" for suggestions / help.
Neat Tip: You will probably find out how the send messages to other
stations at some time. Here is the tip, change the "Port" in the
message screen to "I" instead of "1". That way your message will be
send via the internet connection. (The "1" tells it to send using the
TNC. Guess what happens if you don't have a TNC...)
FLASH,FLASH,FLASH!
If you are setting up an internet connected APRS station in McMinn
county, let NA4IT
know ASAP. KG4FZR-7 is now an internet gateway, and
we need to add your call so you will be gated to the RF side of APRS!
