Ben C. Dickson, W4NEG/SK

Ben C. Dickson, (W4NEG) 90, of
Athens, died early Saturday morning, June 28, 2008, at Woods
Memorial
Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of
the
late Ben C. Dickson, Sr., and Alice Dickson, of Knoxville.
He was a lifelong member of Englewood First Baptist Church, and
was a
member of the Rod and Gun Club.
He was a rural mail carrier for 38 years, and was retired
from
the Athens Post Office.
He was an amateur radio operator and also worked for many years
as an
engineer for WLAR radio station in Athens.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister,
Ruth
Overly of Somerset, Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Opal Webb Dickson of
Athens;
one son, James Dickson of Athens;
one daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Brodie Noel Weir of
Athens;
2 grandchildren and spouses, Kristal Weir Pettis and Husband,
Brian, of
Tucson, Ariz., and Steven D. Weir and wife, April Walden Weir of
Athens;
2 great-grandchildren, Cody and Chelsey Weir of Athens;
two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Martin Luther “Bill”
Greenwood of Marion, Virginia, and Doris and E.W. Jankowski of
Miami,
Fla.;
1 brother-in-law, Bill Overly of Somerset, Kentucky; and several
nieces
and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 30th in the
North
Chapel with speaker Dennis C. Bordwine officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunrise Cemetery. There will be no
visitation
held.
