Bill Hicks, KK4ZDE / SK, September 12, 2015



Bill L. HIcks, age 56 of Niota, passed away, Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.

A native and life-long resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Clyde William and Lena Mae Webb Hicks and was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam and Cora Gallant Hicks and Ransom and Rose Conner Hicks and one brother-in-law, Dr. Larry Norwood.

He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, the bus ministry and the technical team. He worked for Home Health of East Tennessee as a network technician.

He was the former director of Christian Builders of South East TN and a HAM radio operator KK4ZDE as member of McMinn County Amateur Radio Club, Inc.; he served on the Executive Board of McMinn/ Meigs Baptist Association.

Survivors: His wife of 24  years, Ernestine Benson HIcks  of Niota; One sister, Jean Hicks Jenkins   of San Diego, CA; Three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Louise Benson Taylor of Jefferson City, TN; Ozella and Dr. Jimmy McCarter of Athens, Dorthey Benson Norwood of Athens; Cousin as close as a brother, Sam and Karen Hicks of Cleveland ,TN; Several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Monday, September 14, 2015 in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with Dr. Jimmy McCarter and Rev Justin Brown officiating.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Niota Cemetery.  Active pallbearers will be deacons of Zion Hill Baptist.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 P.M. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Contributions can be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church Children's and Bus Ministry.
